BERKELEY, Calif. - Courtney Carter netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 74th minute but California answered 10 seconds later as the Bears denied the Beavers their first Pacific-10 Conference victory of the season 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Edwards Stadium.
Laura Schott's header assisted by Kim Yokers gave California a 1-0 first-half lead. Amy Willison assisted Tracy Hamm's goal at the 63:49 mark to increase the advantage to 2-0.
Oregon State cut the lead in half at 73:25 when Carter nailed a kick to the far post from 12 yards out. Stacey Mescher assisted on the goal.
California answered at the 73:35 mark when Dania Cabello dribble in and fired from 18 yards out.
"We battled back and played fairly well," OSU coach Steve Fennah said. "We scored on a nice goal and assist by Carter and Mescher. "Immediately they scored on the other end, so I was a little disappointed."
California outshot Oregon State 25-10, including a 12-4 advantage in the first half. OSU goalie Jo Fletcher came up with seven saves on the day.
