EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Aaron Brooks scored 24 points to lead Oregon past Oregon State 73-64 Saturday night in the first game of the Civil War series this season.
Brooks had 15 points in the second half to help the Ducks (10-2 overall, 2-1 Pac-10) lead by as many as 15 points. He was 9 for 15 from the field with three 3-pointers.
Ian Crosswhite recorded 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds, leading the Ducks to a 44-20 advantage on the boards.
David Lucas, getting his first start since returning from toe surgery four games ago, led the Beavers (10-4, 2-1) with 15 points, including 11 in the second half to help keep the game in range. Nick DeWitz and Jason Fontenet had 13 points apiece.
Oregon separated itself from a tight game when Jordan Kent scored on a pair of free throws and then a breakaway dunk on consecutive possessions to give the Ducks a 26-22 lead five minutes before halftime.
A layup by Jim Hanchett brought the Beavers back to within a basket before Marrty Luenen and Brooks scored back-to-back 3-pointers for Oregon to spark a 10-0 run that put the Ducks up 36-26 with 1:32 left. They led 38-29 at the break.
Oregon scored the first five points of the second half to take a 44-29 advantage after the Beavers turned the ball over on their first six possessions.
Oregon State cut the lead to 63-56 with five minutes to play on a layup by Lucas, but Brooks followed with a layup and 3-pointer to put the Ducks back up 68-56 with 4:08 remaining.
