Men's Soccer Drops Final Home Match To Huskies

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State men's soccer team lost, 1-0, in its final home match against Washington Friday evening at Paul Lorenz Field.
The Beavers (6-11-0, 1-9-0 Pacific-10 Conference) had nine shots in the match with six of those on goal and had a strong performance from goalkeeper Steve Spangler who finished with four saves.
"It was a very physical game," Oregon State head coach Steve Simmons said. "They had a good momentum shift at the beginning. I thought the last 20 to 25 minutes we were pushing and that's why I want my guys to do. I want them to be aggressive. I want them to feel like they can make plays. I thought they were first to the ball.
"I'm very proud of the performance. Those guys left their heart on the field and they performed well. I'm disappointed for them that they didn't get the result because they deserved more than that.
The Huskies (11-6-1, 5-5 Pacific-10 Conference) took the lead at 27:58 when the Beavers were called for a hand ball and Dylan Tucker-Gangnes scored on a penalty kick.
"That's a disappointing way to give up a goal," Simmons said. "I will give full credit to the guys for their performance, but I feel for them and I feel for the seniors."
