Phoenix, Ariz. – The Oregon State women's cross country team competed in the Pac-12 Championships Saturday finishing ninth overall in the race. Colorado took the team title and Katie Flood from Washington took the individual title.
“We are disappointed,” head coach Kelly Sullivan said. “Laura Carlyle wasn't able to run for a week leading up to this meet and so she had to deal with the emotion of that and Masterson got sick this week. But I am really proud of both of them because they lined up and they were in the top-20 during the first 3,000 meters.”
Oregon State's top finisher today was senior Laura Carlyle. She finished the 6,000 meter course with time of 20:55 placing 29th overall. Casey Masterson finished second for the Beavers with a time of 21:32 placing 55th overall.
Audrey Botti crossed the finish line with Masterson also finishing with a time of 21:32 placing 56th. Freshman Kinsey Gomez came in fourth for Oregon State completing the course in a time of 21:43 placing 63rd overall and Erin Jones rounded out the Beaver top-five coming in 67th place with a time of 21:53.
“I am very pleased with Audrey because she ran very well and Kinsey ran well and so did Erin, I was very pleased with them,” Sullivan said. “It is a pretty tough conference. But overall we survived it and two weeks from now hopefully everyone will be healthy.”
Olivia Poblacion finished sixth for the Beavers placing 80th overall with a time of 22:04. Aly Nielson, Emily Wheeler and Kelsi Schaer all finished together placing 100th, 101st and 102nd.
Underclassmen made up the majority of the team that raced today for the Beavers and the coach is optimistic about the experience they gained today.
“This was Audrey, Erin, Kinsey, Aly and Kelsi's first conference race and for them to come in here the very first time and run as well as they did was great,” Sullivan said. “They have some flying colors for their first time running in this race.”
The Oregon State cross country team will return to action when they race in the NCAA West Regional at Stanford November 12.
