MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Oregon State women's track team swept the major distance races Friday night at the John Knight Twilight at Western Oregon University. The night was capped off by top 10 performances by Laura Carlyle in the 800-meter and Taylor Nowlin in the 3,000 steeplechase.
"It was a great day for us across the board," Oregon State track head coach Kelly Sullivan said following the meet. "We definitely got out of this meet what we were looking for. Laura Carlyle put up a great performance in the 800. We've been looking forward to seeing Taylor Nowlin run the steeplechase and it was good to see her do so well in her first time running the event."
Carlyle started the night for the Beavers with a win in the 800. She ran a time of 2:09.25 which is the third fastest 800 time in school history just behind Kathy Weston and Robin Blaine. Her time Friday was a personal best by nearly three seconds.
Another top performance on the day for the Beavers was Taylor Nowlin's win in the 3,000 steeplechase; it was her first time ever running a steeplechase event. She won the event with a time of 11:09.67. Her time also places her third on the Oregon State all-time list for the event.
Abby Chesimet won the 1,500 with a time of 4:38.97. Jennifer Macias ran the event in a time of 4:41.95 while Olivia Poblacion finished with a time of 4:44.56. Freshman Erin Jones added a win in the 5,000 with a time of 17:51.26 in her first time running the event.
The Beavers will next hit the track April 14-16 when they head to Walnut, Calif. for the Mt. SAC Relays.
