CORVALLIS, Ore. - Garrett Drucker and Clayton Jack each picked up wins in their final bouts at Gill Coliseum and Oregon State head coach Jim Zalesky won his 200th career dual in the Beavers' 20-13 victory over North Dakota State on Sunday.
Zalesky improved to 200-62-2 in his career and is the 13th active Division-I head coach to reach that milestone. He has 73 victories in six seasons at Oregon State (7-2 overall).
Drucker's bout Sunday was not only his final one at Gill Coliseum, but also his first one of the 2011-12 season. He was a 12-6 victor over North Dakota State's (4-6) Justin Solberg at 133 pounds and pushed the Beavers to their first points of the day after Pat Rollins was defeated, 16-6, by Trent Sprenkle at 125 pounds.
Drucker improved to 18-6 on the year.
Jack capped off the Beavers' seven-point win by defeating Evan Knutson in the heavyweight boul, the final one of the day. He stretched his win streak to four bouts and improved to 28-1 this season and 110-35 for his career.
Both teams won four bouts through the first eight, and OSU did not manage to clinch the team win until the buzzer sounded on Jack's match. The teams were tied at 13 entering the 197-pound bout featuring OSU's Taylor Meeks and North Dakota State's John Gusewelle.
Meeks was a 10-2 victor in the bout, the Beavers' second and final major decision on the day. He improved to 15-6 in 2011-12.
Sprenkle's 16-6 win was North Dakota State's only major decision of the day.
Mike Mangrum stretched his win streak to 10 with a 16-5 major decision over Tyler Diamond, at 141 pounds, to send OSU to a 7-4 lead which was stretched to 10-4 when Scott Sakaguchi defeated Mark Erickson, 10-3, at 149.
Steven Monk and Tyler Johnson both won close decisions for North Dakota State to push the teams to a 10-10 stalemate. Monk was a 9-7 winner over RJ Pena at 157 while Erickson defeated fellow Bismarck (N.D.) high school graduate Joe Latham, 9-8.
Cody Weishoff made it two straight victories with an 11-4 win over Joseph Garner at 174, then watched as North Dakota State's MacKain Stoll won 9-7 over Ty Vinson in a sudden victory period. That put the teams at 13-13, setting up Meeks' and Jack's wins.
The Beavers hit the road next weekend and take on Boise State Friday night at 6 p.m. PT and Stanford on Sunday at 2 p.m.
