TUCSON, Ariz. - Megan McBride posted her third double double of the season but the Oregon State volleyball team dropped a four-set decision to Arizona Sunday at the McKale Center.
Set scores were 17-25, 21-25, 25-20 and 17-25.
"Our biggest problem today was attacking," Oregon State head coach Taras Liskevych said. "We need to figure out a way to get our outside hitters back on track. We can't hit 10 percent, nine percent and expect to win matches. Megan and Arica had good percentages, but we can't afford to make 34 attacking errors, which we did today."
McBride finished the match with 30 assists and 14 digs. Her other double doubles came Sept. 14 against Santa Clara and Oct. 14 against Washington State.
Both Arica Nassar and Camille Saxton had 11 kills to tie for the team lead. For Saxton, it was the eighth straight match she led the team and 17th overall. In doing so, Saxton pushed herself up the Oregon State career lists with 990 kills during her four-year tenure.
Saxton surpassed Pia Ahlengard (1995-97) for 14th in career kills, and now trails No. 13 Tricia Becker, who had 996 from 1987-90.
Nassar, meanwhile, hit .333 overall while the Beavers finished with a hitting percentage of .099. Arizona, meanwhile, finished at a .220 clip, led by Madi Kingdon, who had 13 kills.
Becky Defoe paced the Beavers in digs for the 20th time in 22 matches this season, finishing with 17. The junior, who already holds the school's single-season record with 555 in 2011, moved into seventh in Beavers' single-season history with 416 this season. She also leads the Pac-12 Conference and is the league's lone player averaging more than five per set.
Defoe remains in third in school history for career kills, and is less than 150 away from breaking into second.
Defensively, the Wildcats controlled the net, finishing with 11.5 blocks to three for the Beavers. The teams matched up evenly in digs, with Oregon State claiming the small advantage, 53-51.
Oregon State dropped to 13-9 overall and 3-7 in Pac-12 play this season. Arizona, meanwhile, improved to 12-9 overall and 4-6 in league play.
Arizona claimed the first set, 25-17, after hitting .216 compared to a .000 percentage for the Beavers. Saxton had four kills to lead Oregon State, which trailed the entire set.
Oregon State upped its hitting percentage to .108 in set two but could not overcome Arizona late. The Wildcats took the frame, 25-21, after hitting .200 themselves. Nassar had a big set for the Beavers, claiming four kills. The Beavers had an early 5-4 lead in the set but Arizona took the lead for good at 6-5.
Nassar again led the Beavers in kills, finishing with four in set three as Oregon State took the frame, 25-20. The Beavers hit .233 and held Arizona to a .036 percentage. OSU utilized an eight-point run to take a 20-11 lead and held off a late Wildcat rally for the five-point win.
Arizona jumped out to an early 10-1 lead en route to the 25-17 win in set four. The Wildcats hit .429 while the Beavers were held to a .088 percentage.
Oregon State stays on the road next weekend. The Beavers are at Utah Friday night at 6 p.m. PT (7 p.m. in Salt Lake City) then head to visit Colorado on Sunday. That match starts at noon in Oregon (1 p.m. in Boulder) and can be seen live on Pac-12 Oregon.
