OSU HEAD COACH Mike Riley
Reaction to the game
We couldn't get anything going in the first half, and we turned the ball over, so it was a two-fold problem. Then we moved the ball and we still turned it over. I don't know how many red-zone opportunities or close to the red zone opportunities that we gave up, but it was way too many.
On the turnovers
I think that probably will be the thing we regret the most, having the ball with some opportunities, and turning the ball back to them when we had scoring opportunities. As you can see in a game like that, even if one of those opportunities, if one or two would have turned into field goals, it makes a big difference. But Washington played well, they played hard, and they made some good plays.
On decision to bring Vaz in at the end
It was one of those things where I thought that it would just be good for our team. Cody made some good plays, almost made a couple there at the end.
On how he feels after suffering their first loss
Very disappointing, very hard. The key deal now is our reaction to it, and where we got from here, we are just past the midway point lot of football left. We'll just get back to work on Monday, and I have a sense these kids will work very hard for next week's game.
On what the Washington defense did to keep them from getting in a rhythm
Oh they made some plays, I don't know that they did anything unique.
On their defense
I thought we played a lot of good defense. They didn't really have that much production nor yards so I thought we played pretty good defense.
OSU PLAYERS
QB Sean Mannion
On the game
It was a tough loss against a great opponent. Washington played a great game, I thought they played well tonight. I'm not happy we lost, but this team has great character. We're going to be ready to go next week, that's for sure.
On his first interception
I will have to look at the film, but I felt it was a combination of things that went wrong. I misread some things. I'll learn from it and make better plays next time.
On putting in Cody Vaz
It was a little bit of disappointment obviously, but I support Cody and our team 100% no matter the circumstance and I support what's best for the team. Would I have liked to play? Obviously, but at the same time I know it's about the team and not me. I'm behind Cody 110%.
On the hit on Markus Wheaton
It's unfortunate. I feel bad about it. He's a good friend of mine and an outstanding leader. And he was supporting us from the sideline the rest of the game. Unfortunately he couldn't come back in the game but I know you don't really want to mess around (with an injury).
On the loss
Obviously we are disappointed but there is a long road ahead of us. We will bounce back and prepare for the next game. There is a long road ahead of us and all we can do is learn and that's the approach we are going to take.
On Washington's offense
They ran the ball well. They passed the ball well. They played better than us today.
On offensive turnovers
It's frustrating but we want to go on the field. We want to be on the field.
On Washington's running game
I was surprised they were able to run. But I knew they were good running the ball. But I just had a lot of confidence in our defense.
On the loss
We just have to forget about it.
On moving on
We just have to watch the film and move on. Prepare for the next game.
Do you feel you gave this game to Washington?
No. We played our hearts out. That's the best way to do it. But unfortunately everything went their way. It's a good game for them.
