Volleyball Downs WSU In Four, Snaps Streak

PULLMAN, Wash. - Camille Saxton and Ashley Eneliko each had 16 kills to pace the Oregon State volleyball team to a four-set win over Washington State Friday night at Beasley Coliseum. Set scores were 29-27, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-23.
Eneliko tied a career-high with the 16 kills and she posted a .303 hitting percentage in the win. She added five assisted blocks, helping pace the Beavers to 16 overall, including seven solo. Three of the seven solo blocks went to Arica Nassar, who finished with six overall in addition to 14 kills and a .545 hitting percentage.
Saxton, meanwhile, had 16 kills in 59 attempts and added 10 digs and two blocks.
The win pushed the Beavers to 14-15 overall on the year and 4-13 in Pac-12 Conference play. The win also snapped the team's losing streak at eight and gave the Beavers a season sweep of Washington State (12-17, 2-15).
"This is a big win for us," Oregon State head coach Taras Liskevych said. "We had an outstanding blocking effort tonight and had a great game plan for stopping their outside hitters. We neutralized them. That was a real key for us."
Not only were the Beavers strong offensively, but defensively as well, out-blocking the Cougars, 16 to 12.5, and out-digging them as well, 84 to 81. Becky Defoe led the Beavers in digs for the 27th time this season, tallying 27, which pushes her to 541 on the year and just 14 shy of tying her single-season school record of 555 last season. She's also now six shy of moving into sole possession of second place in the OSU career books.
Haley Clarke had six blocks to toe Nassar for the team lead while Megan McBride finished with 41 assists.
Jaicee Harris and Marcelina Glab had 15 kills apiece to lead Washington State.
The Beavers jumped out to a 2-0 lead, thanks to a 29-27 win in the first set and a 25-23 victory in set two. The Beavers hit .238 and .256, respectively, while the Cougars were limited to percentages of .173 and .205.
Oregon State improved to 11-0 when winning the first set this season and 8-0 when taking the first two.
Washington State hit .179 in the third set but limited the Beavers to a .133 clip to pull to within one with a 25-21 victory. But, not to be denied, Oregon State limited WSU to a .044 hitting percentage in the fourth set for the 25-23 match-clinching win.
The match was a back-and-forth affair with 43 ties and 21 lead changes. A majority of those came in the first set with 17 ties occurring and the lead changing hands 11 times.
The Beavers conclude their weekend of play Saturday night at No. 6 Washington. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. PT start in Seattle.
