JV8+'s First Place Finish Highlights OSU Men's Rowers' Day at Head of the Lake

JV8+ is highest placing boat on Sunday as two of OSU's three others earn top five finishes
SEATTLE, Wash. – The OSU men's rowing team capped off its fall season Sunday in first place fashion as the JV8+ boat finished in first place at the Head of the Lake Regatta in Seattle. The Beavers' one and only boat in the event crossed the finish line with a time of 17:08.19, beating out second place University of Victoria by a full eight seconds.
The first place boat was comprised of Chase Hooper in the stroke seat, followed by Clark Fisher, Ty Louis, John Broc, Caleb Aguiar, Will Gangmark-Strickland, Jorgen Anderson and Andrew Satterlee as bow. The boat was coxed by EmilyAnne Pillari, who has now been aboard three-first place finishers this fall.
OSU's lone Varsity 8+ boat finished in fifth place with a time of 16:40.47, just ten seconds behind fourth place Gonzaga. The Varsity 8+ boat had Chad Swenson in the stroke seat, with Brad Buser in bow and Eric Sumner as the coxswain.
The only event on the day which featured two Orange and Black boats was the Men's Championship 4+, where Oregon State's 'B' team finished in fifth (18:39.31), with Bobby Vernazza in stroke, followed by Nick Hammond, Dominic DeCarlo and Brennan Lewis as bow with Evan Clark cox'ing.
The 'A' boat in the Championship 4+ finished in sixth with a time of 18:51.84. That vessel was coxed by Sam Callen and featured Kyle Wilkins in stroke, Dylan Nelson in the 3 seat, Henry Stout in the 2 seat and Nick Aerne as bow.
Steve Todd's crew now has the rest of the fall and winter off before cranking up competition again for next spring. The Beavers finished the fall season with a total of three first place finishes in three separate races/regattas.
