CORVALLIS, Ore. - Tyler Smith singled with one out in the 10th to send the sixth-ranked Oregon State baseball team to a 2-1 win in front of 2,776 fans Friday night at Goss Stadium.
Joey Jansen moved both over, paving the way for Smith's game-winning RBI. It sent the Beavers to a perfect 9-0 record while Bryant dropped to 0-3-1 on the year.
Max Engelbrekt earned the win after getting the final out of the game in the 10th. Scott Schultz had opened the inning and ended the game having worked 3 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
The duo kept the Beavers' bullpen ERA to 0.00 in 34 innings on the year. The club's overall ERA, meanwhile, dropped to 1.10 after starting out the game at 1.12.
Salvadore Lisanti took the loss for Bryant and is 0-1 on the year. The right-handed reliever scattered four hits and a run in 2 1/3 innings of work. He was the Bulldogs' third pitcher of the game; starter Peter Kelich allowed three hits while holding the Beavers scoreless in five innings.
Matt Boyd made his third start for the Beavers and did not figure in the decision after being relieved by Schultz in the seventh. Boyd allowed one run on eight hits while he struck out seven and walked two.
Bryant took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning when Daniel St. George singled up the middle off Boyd, enabling Jordan Mountford to score from third. Two innings later, however, the Beavers evened the game at one. Jerad Casper reached second on a fly ball that was dropped in right. Nick Rulli pinch ran for him and scored when Rodriguez stroked a two-out single up the middle.
Rodriguez, Smith and Peterson all had two hits for the Beavers, who finished with eight overall. Bryant had 10.
