Corvallis, Ore. – The Oregon State women's soccer team suffered its second heartbreaking setback of the weekend when it fell 2-1 to Washington State on Sunday in a Pacific-12 Conference game at Lorenz Field.
The Cougars (13-5-0, 6-4-0 Pac-12) scored twice in the second half to erase a 1-0 lead. They evened the game in the 52nd minute; Beau Bremer notched the winner at 85:34 on a rebound after OSU sophomore keeper Bella Geist made an outstanding save to deny her initial scoring opportunity.
Geist had six saves on Sunday and two in a 2-1, double-overtime loss to Washington on Friday afternoon to increase her season total to 211. She ranks fourth on OSU's career saves list, just 41 behind Colleen Boyd (2008-11) in less than two full seasons.
The Beavers dominated the first half from the outset and finally broke through when sophomore midfielder Kayla Latham scored her first goal of the season at 15:30 on a goalmouth scramble following a corner kick by sophomore forward Emma Jones. It was the third corner kick in that sequence of action; OSU had five overall in the first 45 minutes, when it outshot WSU 7-3.
Latham became the 10th different player to score this season. OSU has 16 goals, four times as many as in 2014, when it tallied four in 20 games.
Jones had two shots on goal, Latham and senior defender Gwen Bieck one apiece for OSU, which outshot the Cougars 13-11 overall. OSU also had a 5-3 edge in corners. Sunday's game was part of the Northwest Rivalry Series, Presented by Alaska Airlines.
The Beavers conclude the regular season against Oregon at 2 p.m. Friday at Lorenz Field. The game will be televised by Pac-12 Networks and is part of the 2015-16 Civil War Series, presented by PacificSource Health Plans, McDonalds, Spirit Mountain Casino and Your Local Ford Stores.
