
Gardiner, Perez Conclude Season at NCAAs

FORT WORTH, Texas – Two Oregon State gymnasts performed as individual qualifiers at the NCAA Championships Friday evening bringing the 2016 season to a conclusion. Madeline Gardiner performed in the all-around while Risa Perez competed on the balance beam.
Gardiner, who performed in OSU's all-around lineup all year long and qualified to nationals as an individual all-around competitor, scored 39.200 to finish ninth in the evening session. The junior from Cambridge, Ontario, scored of 9.825 on the balance beam, 9.80 on the floor exercise and recorded scores of 9.7875 on vault and uneven bars. In 2016, Gardiner received Pac-12 All-Conference First Team honors in the all-around and Regular Season All-American accolades by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women. She qualified to the NCAA Championships after tying for fourth at the NCAA Athens Regional.
Perez performed a beautiful routine on the balance beam to score 9.8625. The senior completed her Oregon State career with a 13th place finish in the evening session. Perez, who was a Pac-12 co-champion on the beam and earned all-conference second team, scored a 9.90 on the beam to tie for the event title at the NCAA Athens Regional to qualify to the NCAA Championships.
