Beaver Rowing Set to Host Orange & Black Regatta
November 16, 2017 | Men's Rowing, Women's Rowing
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State men's and women's rowing programs will hold the annual Orange & Black Regatta on Saturday, Nov. 18 at the Oregon State Rowing Center along the Willamette River in Corvallis.
The first Orange & Black Regatta was hosted ten years ago and has grown since its beginnings as a women's team workout. There will be men's and women's races, as well as mixed boats and alumni boats.
"We are looking forward to gathering our alumni, families and friends to reconnect and watch some spirited intrasquad competition," began women's rowing head coach Kate Maxim.
"We are grateful for all the support and know that these kinds of events help foster a connection to the greater network of Beaver rowers. A connection so special it can last a lifetime."
The race will be 6,000-meters beginning at the OSU Boathouse dock. From there, crews will row downstream to the north on the Willamette River before turning around to race back upriver to the finish line at the dock.
The regatta is a free event with free parking at the OSU Boathouse. The boathouse is also within walking distance of downtown Corvallis and the Farmer's Market. Lunch will be available, for a fee, following the alumni row, which is scheduled for 10 a.m.
"We expect a few hundred people on the banks of the Willamette on Saturday," said men's rowing head coach Gabe Winkler. "The team has been working hard and can finish off the fall right in downtown Corvallis."
To RSVP for lunch at the event go to http://osufoundation.org/orange_black_regatta2017.
The best areas for fans to view the regatta are 1) from the shore at the OSU Boathouse, 2) from the landing at North Riverfront Park on the west side of the Willamette River below The Spaghetti Factory, and 3) from the Harrison Street Bridge.
