Beavers Row to Third Place Finish
November 05, 2017 | Men's Rowing
SEATTLE, Wash. – On Sunday morning, Oregon State men's rowing got third-place finishes from the Varsity and Junior Varsity 8 highlighting the 38th edition of the Head of the Lake Regatta in Seattle.
The Beavers were prepared for three entries into the Varsity 4, but poor weather conditions forced the organizers to cancel the regatta after just the 10th event of the day.
In the first event of the morning, Men's Collegiate Open 8, OSU's V8+ got off to a blistering start traversing the three-mile course in 15-minutes, 40.176 seconds, just over eight seconds behind second-place finisher Stanford (15:31.734). Washington took home the gold with a time of 14-minutes, 54.175 seconds.
"This is a good result to cap off the fall, even in these extreme conditions," said head coach Gabe Winkler. "The guys kept the focus and pulled the best result we've had in the fall for some time. This sets up as motivation to train over the winter and crush the spring season."
The Beavers' JV8 followed suit with a third-place finish of their own in the Men's Collegiate JV 8. OSU's JV8+ finished the course in 16-minutes, 56.310-seconds, nearly 37-seconds faster than Gonzaga (17:32.617). Oregon State's Third Varsity 8, raced to a time of 17:25.917 and a fourth-place finish behind three strong Washington crews
The Beavers conclude their fall schedule on Saturday, Nov. 18 at the Orange and Black Regatta.
