Varsity 8 Takes Third in C Final

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Oregon State women's Varsity 8 crew finished third, Sunday morning, during Final 'C' of the fifth annual Clemson Invitational.
"Our Varsity 8 demonstrated the strength and leadership that the team needs to move forward for the Pac-12 championships," said interim head coach Allison Foster. "Good to see improvements from all three boats for the Sunday morning finals."
The V8 covered the 2,000-meter course, on Lake Hartwell in 6-minutes, 46.017-seconds. Nearly nine seconds separated the first-place team from the sixth-place team. Gonzaga came in first crossing the line in 6:40.432, while sixth place Cornell finished in 6:49.450.
The Beavers' Second Varsity 8, consisting of Mimi Grosselius, Abigail Watts, Scout Sutton, Maddie Vinson, Joely Hannan, Alyssa Beamer, Katie Descheemaeker, and Claire Diller, and coxswain Jean Cook, finished five seconds ahead of Columbia (7:02.607) clocking a time of 6:57.611 for sixth-place.
The Varsity 4+ finished the weekend five seconds behind first place Cornell (7:39.656) covering the course in 7:44.681. The Beavers outraced Clemson and Tennessee by over five seconds turning in a time of 7:49.561 and 7:49.994 respectively.
"The Clemson invite is a great race with a lot of fast crews, it was an honor to be invited and this weekend brought out the best in our top end speed."
As a team, Oregon State finished the weekend in 20th place, while Texas took first with 130 points.
The Beavers return to action May 14, at the Pac-12 Championships, in Gold River, Calif.
