Bishop Returns to Oregon State as Assistant Coach

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Sierra Bishop has joined the Oregon State Women's Rowing coaching staff, Director of Rowing Michael Eichler announced Monday.
"I am thrilled to welcome Sierra Bishop back to Oregon State as an assistant coach. She went from walk-on to All-American and gold medalist at the U-23 World Championships, so her trajectory exemplifies what's possible here," Eichler said. "Her deep connection to this program, combined with her elite experience and understanding of what it takes to succeed at Oregon State, make her an invaluable addition to our staff, and I'm excited to see how her experience can help our student-athletes."
Bishop rowed for five seasons in Corvallis, working her way from the novice eight to a four-year member of the 1V8. During her time with the Beavers' top boat, Oregon State made a trip to the NCAA Championships, placing 14th in 2022.
The Wilsonville native was a two-time All-American, earning second team honors in 2022 after being an honorable mention selection in 2021, also finding success at the international level, winning gold in the eight at the 2021 World Rowing U-23 Championships.
"I am so excited be back on the Willamette with the Beavs. The decision to learn to row here as a walk-on continues to have an impact on my life and the person I am today, and it is so meaningful to me to get to help shape that experience for the student athletes coming in," Bishop said. "Coach Mike has created such a great environment for student-athletes to become the people they want to be and I look forward to stepping into this role and continuing that mission."
Since graduation, she has competed for the Penn AC High-Performance Team, United States Beach Sprints National Team and Oxford Brookes Rowing Team.
Bishop started her coaching career at Shipley high School in Bryn Mawr, Pa., before moving to Oxford, where she was on the staff at the staff at St. Hugh's College. While in England, her role focused on creating a comprehensive training program for athletes and evaluating race results to inform strategic race planning.
Oregon State women's rowing is coming off a successful 2026 season that culminated in the team's second-consecutive Conference Championship and a 17th place finish at the NCAA Championships.
