Beavers Head to Windermere Cup

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The No. 19 Oregon State men's rowing team heads to Seattle for the 31st annual Windermere Cup on Saturday, hosted by the University of Washington, Seattle Yacht Club, and Windermere Real Estates.
The Windermere Cup is set every year in conjunction with the Seattle Yacht Club Opening Day Parade that signals the start of boating season in Seattle.
"This is a fun, unique race that we are excited to be a part of," said head coach Gabe Winkler. "This is the biggest race that we attend and they have a ton of loud, excited fans."
The Beavers will race three eight-man boats including a Second Varsity, Third Varsity and Fourth Varsity, on the 2,000-meter course.
The Orange and Black 4V8 is set to be the first Oregon State boat to hit the water at 11:03 a.m. The 3V8 faces Washington, Gonzaga and Western Washington at 11:12 a.m. The Beavers final boat is the 2V8 racing in the Cascade Cup at 11:30 a.m.
COURSE & VIEWING: The 2,000-meter course is located on the Montlake Cut, spectators are invited and encouraged to watch the raced along-side the Cut for free of charge. The Montlake Bridge will be closed to traffic from 9:20 a.m. to approximately 3 p.m. Paid parking is available at the University of Washington, more information on parking here.
Race Times: The Fourth Varsity 8 starts things off for the Beavers at 11:03 a.m.

Third Varsity 8 – 11:12 a.m.

Do you have a specific pre-race ritual?
The only pre-race ritual I have is don't eat anything heavy two hours before a race.
What has been your favorite moment as an OSU athlete?
Freshman year at 2014 Nationals winning the repechage to advance to the A/B Semifinal in the 2nd varsity 8.
If you had a pump-up song, what would it be?
"Kickstart My Heart" by Motley Crüe
If you could play a different college sport at Oregon State, what would it be and why?
I would have to say baseball, because it's the only other sport I've put comparable hours to as rowing.
What do you like best about Corvallis?
I love the college town feel and location.
How would you describe your teammates?
Dedicated, hardworking and a fun group.
How would you describe the coaching staff?
Energetic, experienced, and trying to get the best out of every rower.
What has been your favorite race location or where are you most excited to race at? Why?
Seattle is my favorite location because I get to go home and eat dinner with my family.
What is your major? Why did you chose your major?
Construction Engineering Management. I chose this major because the CEM program is extremely well-connected and puts you on the right foot for post-graduation.
Describe a funny or interesting part of studying your major at Oregon State.
Listening to the most experienced professor at OSU, Robert Schultz. He is currently in his 55th year of teaching at OSU.
If you could vacation anywhere where would it be? Why?
I would go skiing in Japan because they get an insane amount of snowfall each year.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Working as a senior project manager as a contractor on the West Coast.
If you were a superhero what super power would you want? Why?
Teleportation because I could teleport to the top of a ski run and shred, first tracks every day.
