CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's soccer team took a 3-2 victory over American Friday evening at Lorenz Field.

"I was really pleased with our performance," said Oregon State head coach Terry Boss. "I thought we put together a really good first 70-75 minutes. We took our foot off the pedal a little bit late on and we paid for it. Every game we get better, and now it's about putting together a complete game over 90 minutes. When we do that, I think we can be competitive with anyone in the country."

The Beavers got first-half goals from freshmen Gloire Amanda and Sofiane Djeffal, before Eric Diaz added a third early in the second frame. The Eagles fought back with a pair of late goals, but Oregon State took the victory.

With the win, the Beavers are now unbeaten in six-straight matches, their longest such streak in a single-season since 2005.

Oregon State started the scoring early on, as Carlos Moliner's through-ball put Amanda in on goal. The freshman slotted his shot past the keeper in the sixth minute to put the Beavers in front. Djeffal nearly doubled the advantage just minutes later, when he headed a corner kick just over the bar.

Amanda came close to netting another in the 35^th, when he found himself in on goal off a pass from Djeffal, but the American keeper was quick off his line to make the save.

Djeffal got on the board in the 35^th minute, as he danced past a number of Eagle defenders before placing his shot past the goalie. The Beavers took the 2-0 lead into the intermission.

Oregon State wasted little time adding a third in the second half, as Diaz capitalized on a scramble in the box to make the score 3-0. The goal followed back-to-back shots on target by Don Tchilao and Diaz.

Joel Walker had a pair of chances within a two minute span, but neither one found the net. American pulled one back in the 79^th, on a shot that barely crossed the line before it was knocked back out of the frame. The Eagles cut it to one minutes later off a shot from distance.

Oregon State surged back from there, as Walker created a late scoring chance, before OSU walked away with the 3-2 victory.

The Beavers will wrap up nonconference play next week, when they head up I-5 for a matchup with Portland. That game will start at 7 p.m. at Merlo Field
