Strong Start Powers Beavers in First Race of the Fall Season
October 20, 2019 | Men's Rowing
Oregon State rowed to a fourth place finish among collegiate boats in the Men's Championship 4+ at Head of the Charles
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Oregon State men's rowing team started off the 2019 fall season strong finishing fourth out of all collegiate boats in the Men's Championship 4+ at the Head of the Charles Regatta.
The Beaver Boat comprised of: freshman Adam Montoya, sophomore Jacoby Wilson, junior Max McDonald, senior Roman Pjajka, and coxed by senior Ben Garrison started on a fast pace in the picture-perfect conditions in Cambridge this morning finishing as the sixth fastest boat over the first leg of the race.
"The guys started off at a fast pace and moved through some boats -- that is the fun aspect of this race," said Beaver Head Coach Gabe Winkler. "The second half was a little harder, but they should be proud of the 4th collegiate place against the best in the country."
The Beavers final time of 16:04.291 was within 16 seconds of the first place Italian Boat Fiamme Gialle and within 11 seconds of the top collegiate boat in the event from Brown University.
The Beavers are back in action next week on October 27th at the Portland Fall Classic in Vancouver, Wash.
