March 15, 2019 | Women's Gymnastics
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The No. 15 Oregon State gymnastics team secured victory at Gill Coliseum for the third straight outing scoring 196.550 to defeat Iowa, North Carolina and Seattle Pacific on Friday night. The meet marked the final regular season home meet for seniors Mariana Colussi-Pelaez, Mary Jacobsen and McKenna Singley.
The Beavers moved to 12-2 overall with the win.
"Senior Day is an important night each season," head coach Tanya Chaplin said. "Everybody has a lot of emotions and we're also at the end of Dead Week with finals coming up, so it can be difficult to maintain the focus in this meet. We did a nice job of finishing the meet on the floor, but we had a lot of performances that they did well on other events too. We brought a lot of energy and was especially proud of them to perform the way they did."
The Beavers took the lead early on and never let up. Jacobsen stuck her vault to register a team-best 9.875 while Kaitlyn Yanish nailed her's for the second straight week to score 9.850. Singley and Lena Greene each added scores of 9.775 and OSU settled at 49.000 in the opening rotation.
Oregon State opened the lead in the second stanza scoring 49.025 on the uneven bars behind a meet-best 9.875 from Sabrina Gill. Jacobsen and Halli Briscoe posted matching scores of 9.825 for the Beavers.
Leading second place Iowa by a score of 98.025-97.375 midway through the meet, the Beavers continued on with their solid performance. Freshman Madi Dagen secured her fourth event title of the season scoring 9.90 on the balance beam. Singley and Colussi-Pelaez, who form the leadoff duo for the Beavers, each tallied 9.825 to set the table for Dagen's performance and OSU totaled 49.000 on the apparatus.
Moving to the floor exercise, OSU had given a bit of ground but maintained the lead at 147.025-146.400. Jacobsen led off with a strong routine to score 9.850. Savanna Force turned in a 9.90 performance that Isis Lowery would match and Singley tied her career-high with a 9.925.
