McLaughlin Throws School Record in Shot Put at Beach Invite
April 20, 2019 | Women's Track & Field
LOS ANGELES – A school record that has stood for 35 years has been broken thanks to Oregon State track and field's Keely McLaughlin during the team's performance at the Beach Invite on Saturday.
Â
It was a busy weekend for the Beavers that saw them competing at four different competitions across the Los Angeles area; Mt. Sac Relays, Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, Bryan Clay Invitational, Beach Invite.
Â
McLaughlin, competing at the Beach Invite, took the record for herself after tying Kam Johnson for the best shot put mark in OSU history a couple weeks ago. The redshirt freshman from Oklahoma finished in 11th place with her record-setting throw of 50-feet, 2-inches. Freshman Taylor Crockem (23rd) managed a top 25 finish with her best throw of 47-feet, 2.25-inches, while Jessica Molina and Sydney Guthrie-Baker placed in 40th and 48th respectively.
Â
Wyoming native Ann Wingeleth grabbed a fourth place finish in the high jump, and the eighth-best jump of all-time at Oregon State. Wingeleth cleared 5-feet, 8.75-inches on her second attempt and missed on all attempts at the next height.
Â
The Beavers lone entrant into the triple jump leaped her way into the school record books with the fourth-best triple jump in OSU's history. True freshman Emma Nelson managed 38-feet, 0-inches on her second attempt for 26th overall place.
Â
Oregon State's distance crew managed a couple all-time finishes on Friday evening at the conclusion of the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Â
Lexi Reed now ranks No. 8 all-time in the 1,500 meters after running a 4-minute, 28.32-second time. She is the first to crack the top 10 since Morgan Anderson in 2017.
Â
Sophomore Rebecca Ledsham, OSU's only entrant into the 800 meters, finished her race in 2-minutes, 11.57-seconds for the eighth-fastest time in the school's history.
