Beavers Face Lobos and Aggies at Lorenz

OSU will host New Mexico on Thursday and UC Davis on Sunday.
THE GAMES: The Oregon State women's soccer team plays host to New Mexico and UC Davis at Lorenz Field this week. The Beavers will take on the Lobos on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. and the Aggies on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m.

Quick Hitters:
- The Beavers will play 11 home games this season at Lorenz Field - including five of the eight nonconference matches.Â
- Oregon State returns seven starters and 13 letterwinners from the 2018 squad.
- OSU is scheduled to face three opponents ranked in the United Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll and six that are receiving votes.
- Oregon State's 3-0 start is the best start in program history since the Beavers went 3-0-1 in 2015.
vs. New Mexico:
- Thursday's matchup marks the fourth time the Beavers and Lobos have met in program history and the first time since 2011.
- OSU leads the series 3-0.
vs. UC Davis:
- Sunday's match will be the third time Oregon State and UC Davis have met in program history and the first time since 2011.
- The Beavers lead the series 2-0 over the Aggies.
2018 to 2019:
- The Beavers have taken a strong offensive approach to the 2019 season.
- In 2018, OSU recorded one goal in 29 shots through the first three games averaging .330 GPG - in 2019, OSU has eight goals in 60 shots avergaing 2.67 GPG.
- With an increase of goals, 2019 has seen an increase in assists this season securing seven through three games while 2018 only recorded one assist in 19 games.
- The Beavers have been attack early in the game scoring three-of-six goals to date in the first half - two of which have come within the first seven minutes of play.
- Oregon State has limited the opponents looks at goal in 2019. In 2018, OSU gave up six goals on 42 shots through three games. In 2019, OSU has only allowed one goal on 14 shot attempts.
- An offensive-centered team has created more corner kick opportunities for OSU taking 23 while only allowing opponents to take two in 2019. In 2018, OSU only had three attempts compared to ten from opponents through three games.
New Era Under Kagan:
- 2019 marks the first season for head coach Matt Kagan who joins the Beavers after spending the prior two years as the associate head coach at Mississippi State.
- During his first season at MSU, the Bulldogs posted the best record the program had had in 16 years.
- Kagan has been a member of nine coaching staffs that have led teams to the NCAA Tournament - three of those teams have advanced to the Sweet 16.
- Kagan started his professional career in 2004 at Assumption College in Massachusetts before taking the reigns of Worcester State from 2005-08.
The Staff:
- Kagan brings in three distinguished coaches to join his staff.
- Jenny Ruiz-Williams was a four-year letterwinner at UNLV and a two-time All-Mountain West Selection while helping the program to their first ever NCAA appearance.
- Ruiz-Williams was a member of the Mexican National Team when they won bronze at the Pan American Games in 2003, 2011 and 2015. Ruiz-Williams scored the game-winning goal in the bronze-medal game in 2011 against Columbia.
- Ruiz-Williams joined the Seattle Reign FC in 2013 before competing in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup with Mexico.
- Nick Stirrett joins the Beavers staff working primarily with the goalkeepers after spending the last three seasons at the University of Illinois where he helped the Illini finish fifth in the Big Ten and make it to the second round of the conference tournament in 2018.
- Prior to his time at Illinois, Stirrett helped lead the Penn State Nittany Lions to become the 2015 NCAA National Champions.
- Stirrett also spent two seasons as the head men's coach at the University of Mount Union.
- Tiff Crooks joins the staff as the Director of Operations after spending the last 12 seasons as the head coach at Case Western Reserve University.
- Crooks is the winningest coach in CWRU program history and was awarded University Athletic Association Coach Staff of the Year in 2009 and 2011.
Newcomers:
- The Beavers welcome nine newcomers to the 2019 roster, seven freshman and two transfers.
- Four newcomers have combined for eight of OSU's 23 points to date (Schwartz - 4, McReynolds - 2, Galceran and Salveter - 1).
- All nine newcomers have seen time this season - Five have started at least one game (McReynolds, Salveter and Schawart - 3, Herrera - 2 and Galceran - 1).
Last Week vs. Villanova:Â
- Oregon State made a double-overtime comeback victory over Villanova on Friday night.
- McKenzie Weinert leveled the score in the 85th minute of play off a pass from Marley Salveter to push the Beavers and Wildcats to overtime.
- Weinert netted the golden goal in the 100th minute off a cross pass from Toni Malone.
Last Week vs. Saint Mary's:Â
- Oregon State took down Saint Mary's 3-0 on Sunday.
- Kaillen Fried struck first for the Beavers in the sixth minute after OSU lined up for a corner kick. Skylar Herrera took a shot that was blocked that Fried rebounded and fired into the net.
- Abby Schwartz scored her second goal of the season in the 19th minute off a leading assist from Brianna McReynolds.
- Taylor Lemmond added the third goal for the Beavers in the 78th minute when Paula Leblic placed a perfect corner kick over the center of the goal that Lemmond was able to get her head on.
Coming Up:Â
- Oregon State hits the road for the first major road trip of the season when the Beavers travel to Houston, Texas to face Houston (Sept. 12 at 5 p.m.) and Rice (Sept. 15 at 5 p.m.).
