Turner Wins Pac-12 Title, Heads to NCAAs with Willits

Devan Turner (133) posted his first conference title and bid to the NCAA tournament while Grant Willits (141) punched his second straight ticket to the big dance.
PALO ALTO, Calif.– Devan Turner captured a Pac-12 title to punch his ticket to the NCAA tournament as the Beavers wrapped up the conference championships in fourth place to finish with two total NCAA qualifiers.
Grant Willits added his qualifying bid NCAAs at 141 pounds as he finished runner-up against ASU's Cory Crooks after the final weights were completed. Oregon State finished with 91.5 team points as Arizona State took home the title.
Brandon Kaylor (125) and Jackson McKinney (174) finished third while J.J. Dixon (197) came in fourth. Lane Stigall (149), Aaron Olmos (165) and Jamarcus Grant (HWT) each posted fifth-place finishes and Logan Meek (157) finished in sixth place.
No. 1 seed Turner (133) used an 11-5 decision to begin the day over Arizona State's Josh Kramer in the semifinal round to earn a spot in the evening session.
Turner showed off his explosiveness over Kramer on top to and scored a quick two points for one of five takedowns in the bout. Moving into the championship round, the junior didn't disappoint as he collected a 5-3 decision over UALR's Paul Bianchi.
Colt Doyle was a force in the 184-bout as he scored a 6-3 decision over ASU's Cade Belshay to seal up a spot in the finals. Doyle picked up a takedown in each period and was dominant on top for 4:29 minutes of riding time. He would drop the first place match to ultimately post a runner-up finish.
As a team, Arizona State won the title (141.5) followed by the Cardinal in second (122.0) and CSU-Bakersfield in third (99.5). Cal Poly (90.0) came in fifth while Little Rock (62.5) rounded out the team scores in sixth.
The two automatic qualifiers now prepare for NCAA Championships in Minneapolis, Minn. in just under two weeks (Mar. 19-21). Brandon Kaylor (125) and Colt Doyle (184) will search for at-large bids which will be revealed next week along with tournament seeding.
