Gary Traub Joins Oregon State Wrestling Coaching Staff

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State wrestling Head Coach Chris Pendleton announced Monday the addition of Gary Traub to the Beavers' coaching staff. He will serve as an assistant coach and work with Pendleton and fellow assistant coaches Cory Crooks and Brandon Kaylor.
"We are excited to be bringing back crowd favorite 'Gas Tank' Gary Traub to our coaching staff," Pendleton said. "Gary has been around some of the best coaches and premier programs around the world and will be bring a wealth of knowledge to our program. I'm excited to see him scrap with our guys!"
Traub spent one season as a Beaver in 2021-22, posting a 22-7 record as a heavyweight. He won 18 straight bouts to close his regular season that year, then finished second in the Pac-12 Championships. The Cincinnati, Ohio native went 2-2 at the NCAA Championships.
"It feels like a full circle moment coming back to Oregon State after finishing my college career here and now starting my coaching journey," Traub said. "I'm excited to continue to learn from Coach Pendelton and give back to the place that gave so much to me. Go Beavs and I'm ready to return to Corvallis!"
He came to Corvallis from Ohio State, where he competed for the Buckeyes from 2016-21. He was an NCAA qualifier in 2020 and ended the year with a 23-9 record. He concluded his run at Ohio State with a 54-26 record, posting eight pins.
Traub competed at Sycamore High School in Ohio, and left as the program's all-time leader in wins at 138. He went 47-2 as a junior, placing fourth in the state championships. The next year, he took second at the 195-lb weight class.
Traub's appointment is contingent on the completion of all university hiring processes.
