Manny Saldate spent his summer training for the world championships, including a trip to Japan. The 133-pounder from Las Vegas is going for a national title this season and a top-15 finish for the Beavers. Teammates say he never stops working.Â
What was the highlight of your summer?
"During the offseason I was training for the world championships. My highlight was going to Japan to train."
What's your goal this season?
"Win a national title."
What's the team's goal?
"Finish the season ranked top 15."
How would you describe this year's team?
"I would describe the team as excited to compete. I think what's going to make us successful this season is our bond as brothers. We're going to go out there competing
for our family."
What does it mean to wear the orange and black?
"It means the world to me. I love competing for Oregon State. I feel like every time I toe that line, I've got all of Corvallis rooting for me."
How would you describe the Corvallis community?
"The Corvallis community is definitely super supportive and dedicated. I think their support isn't like anything else in the world. They constantly show up for us."
How would you describe the coaching staff?
"I think the coaching staff is just like family. They constantly preach to not only be the best in wrestling but in all aspects of life. They really push us to be the best versions of ourselves."
What's something people may not know about you?
"I can solve a Rubik's cube."
Do you have any pre-match rituals?
"I always like to get a haircut before I compete because my dad would always say 'look good, feel good' while I was growing up."
What do you like most about wrestling?
"I love that I'm able to just put all my effort into it and work super hard."

"Friday, because it's the end of the week."
Three teammates you would take to a deserted island?
"Nash, Gage, and Gabe."
Which teammate has been excelling?
"Nash, because he's always doing the right things and always makes sure that he's getting his recovery in."

"Moses. He always has some bangers playing and has good variety."
Which teammate has the best style?
"Gage. I think he has a wide variety of what he wears and could put a fit together no matter what style he wears."
Which teammate would be most likely to be a celebrity chef?
"Mutt, because he makes this dish, chicken marsala, and it's absolutely amazing."
