
Beavers Fall to Trojans in Road Contest

LOS ANGELES – The Oregon State men's basketball team fell to USC 63-62 Sunday evening at the Galen Center in Los Angeles.
The Beavers led for over 31 minutes of game time, going in front by as many as 11 in the contest.
Dexter Akanno led the Beavers with 17 points, six assists and four rebounds, while Glenn Taylor Jr. finished with 11 points off the bench. Jordan Pope tallied 11 points and Rodrigue Andela had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Dzmitry Ryuny recorded six points and nine rebounds. As a team, the Beavers out-rebounded USC 34-23. Oregon State shot 42.3 percent from the floor.
An early Chol Marial 3-pointer put the Beavers up 5-2 at the game's first media timeout. The teams traded punches through the early phases of the game, with the Beavers leading 11-10 mid-way through the first period.
Oregon State used an 11-0 run to jump out to a 26-15 lead five minutes before the intermission. The Beavers headed to the break up 34-23. OSU shot 56 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
USC cut the advantage to five early in the second half. Akanno came up with a 4-point play to put Oregon State in front 47-39 with eight minutes to play. The Trojans again battled back to get within two with 4:25 on the clock. USC took its first lead of the game at 55-53 with 2:25 to play.
The Trojans went in front by five with 17 seconds to go. Oregon State fought back to get within a point in the closing seconds, but Pope's half court attempt as the clock expired was off target.
The Beavers will return to nonconference play next weekend when they take on Texas A&M Sunday in College Station, Texas.
