Gymnastics Records Season-High 197.200 in Sweep of Beaver Quad Meet

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Behind the largest season-opening meet crowd in program history with 4,839 Beaver faithful filling the seats, the Oregon State gymnastics team recorded their highest score of the young season with a 197.200 to defeat No. 8 Denver (196.725), Brown (193.625) and Sacramento State (192.400) on Saturday afternoon at Gill Coliseum.
The Beavs are now 11-0 at Gill Coliseum since the start of the 2022 season.
"It was amazing to be back in front of our fans here in Gill," head coach Tanya Chaplin said. "Our team really fed off the energy that they brought through the entirety of the meet. We can't wait to see them again on Friday night against Rutgers."
Sophomore Jade Carey swept the awards, matching her regular season best in the all-around and second-best mark overall in program history, with a 39.825 across the four events and now has 56 event titles and 13 all-around titles.
Out of the 24 routines, OSU set or matched personal-best in six, with Ariana Young setting a new best on vault and matching her career high on floor to push the Beavers over the 197 mark for the first time this year.
Rotating in Olympic order, the Beavs started the meet on vault, where Carey narrowly missed recording back-to-back 10s to lead the Orange and Black to a 49.200 team score to open the meet. The Beavs sat in second just behind Denver at 49.300 after the first rotation.

On bars, OSU put together their best sequence of routines thus far, going over 49.000 as a team for the first time early in the 2023 season with a 49.175, led by Carey's 9.925 and freshman Jennifer McMillan's career-best 9.825 to jump into the lead at the halfway point.

Sitting in the top 10 in the country after two meets, the Oregon State beam squad jumped up to the fifth-highest average score at 49.317. The Beavs recorded a 49.525 for their highest mark since the 2017 Pac-12 Championships and one of the highest scores in program history with four of the five counted scores going 9.900 or higher for the Orange and Black to all but put away the meet.
