CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women's soccer team battled Arizona to a 0-0 draw Friday evening at Lorenz Field in Corvallis, Ore.
Oregon State held a 10-9 advantage on shots in the match, including an effort from McKenna Martinez that was deflected onto the crossbar. Hailey Coll made three saves in net for the Beavers, as she posted her fourth clean sheet of the season.
The teams went back-and-forth through the early phases of the match, as neither side was able to create a clear-cut scoring opportunity. Amaya Bautista forced a save with a curling shot that nearly found the top corner in the 31st minute.
McKenna Martinez came within inches of putting the Beavers in front in the 36th, as her left-footed effort rattled the crossbar from 20 yards out. The teams headed to the break level.
Gwen Jacobs and Martinez both had scoring chances 17 minutes into the second half, but the Beavers could not find the breakthrough. Carly Carraher took aim on a shot that nearly caught the Wildcat keeper out of position in the 72nd minute.
Maddie Tetz nearly broke the deadlock with eight minutes remaining, as her shot from close range was deflected into the arms of Coll. Oregon State continued to press forward late on, but the contest ended in a stalemate.
The Beavers will hit the road next week to face Stanford on Thursday.
