Beavers Fall in Season Finale

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State volleyball team wrapped up the 2023 season with a rivalry matchup on Saturday afternoon, as they battled the No. 6 Oregon Ducks.
The Beavers fell 3-0 (18-25, 20-25, 20-25) to finish 2023 with an 11-19 mark with a 6-14 record in Pac-12 play.
Mychael Vernon led the Beaver offense with a dozen kills whole Peyton Suess added eight and Lauren Rumel put up seven. Contributing on both ends, Amanda Burns put up her 10th double-double from 22 assists and 10 digs. The digs from Burns paced the defense while Suess and Ryan White each contributed eight. Additionally, Burns and White both served up an ace apiece.
It took until the 29th point of the set – tied at 14 apiece – for either side to find separation in the opening set. A 4-0 run by the Ducks was used as a push toward their seven-point set win. When a Sheridan kill trimmed their deficit to just three at 21-18, Oregon used another 4-0 run to seal it for the early lead.
After taking the set's first two points, the Beavers could not hold off the Ducks as they saw a 2-0 lead turn to a 7-3 deficit before calling for a break. OSU would trim the Oregon lead down to five on multiple occasions before forcing a pair of set points. Burns continued her play with eight assists and five digs to keep the Beavers in contention.
A service error by Rumel at 8-8 turned the set's momentum in the Ducks' favor as they held onto a second consecutive 25-20 set win to clinch the match at 3-0. At 8 apiece, the Ducks used a 5-0 run to achieve their needed separation on the way to the five-point win.
