Beavers Secure First Win of 2026-27 in Four Sets

OREM, Utah – Oregon State made a rally to take a 2-0 set lead and then held off a late charge from Utah Valley to pick up its first win of the season 3-1 (25-17, 25-23, 23-25, 27-25) on the road.

AC Froehlich led the way with 18 kills and just three errors en route to hitting .349 while Taylor Treahy complimented her with 17 kills on a .262 hitting percentage. Alana Marrs had eight blocks and seven kills.

Setter Jackie Matias recorded a double-double with 53 assists and 12 digs. Treahy led the team with 14 digs for her own double-double.

The opening set was a back-and-forth affair with neither team leading by more than two points until the Beavs ran away at the end. A 3-0 run capped by a block from Taray Tela and Treahy put OSU up 19-15. Momentum continued late with Treahy and Cheyenne Green each contributing two points in a 5-0 closing run.

The Beavers were not able to carry their momentum into the second set, dropping nine of the first 10 points. OSU responded, however, with a 6-2 run that featured kills from four players and a massive block by Marrs and Green to pull back within four at 11-7.

Oregon State pulled even in the second at 22-22 before getting a block from Tela and kill by Froehlich to bring the teams to set point. An error by the Wolverines finished off an epic comeback with a 25-23 second-set victory and 2-0 match lead.

Utah Valley made its run in the third set, taking it 25-23, before the Beavs put the match away in the fourth. Froehlich (two kills) and Ivana Cvetkovic (one block, one kill) made the big plays in a 6-1 run that put OSU up 18-14. UVU made a late run to tie the set at 23, 24 and 25 but Treahy secured the win with back-to-back kills.

The Beavers finish off their season-opening weekend on Sunday with a 12 p.m. tilt at Utah. Fans can watch the match on ESPN+.
