March 18, 2023 | Women's Gymnastics
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Sophomore Jade Carey repeated as the all-around champion and the Oregon State gymnastics team finished fourth, behind a 197.200 at the Pac-12 Championships, hosted by the Maverik Center.
"This was a great test for our team to go against three other top 10 programs," head coach Tanya Chaplin said. "We'll learn from this, get back in the gym over the next week and be ready to go when we head to Regionals."
Finishing the all-around with a 39.750, Carey took her second-straight all-around title, besting her score of 39.725 at the same meet a year ago. The Phoenix native also shared the title on floor and beam, with a 9.975 on both events. The floor title was her second-straight, as she was Co-Champion at the 2022 Pac-12 Championships, while the beam title was the first of her career.
Senior Madi Dagen was presented with the 2023 Women's Gymnastics Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year following the meet. The Pleasanton, California native completed her undergraduate degree in Human Development and Family Sciences with a 4.0 grade-point-average and currently holds a 4.0 GPA in her Leading and Creating Change Graduate Certificate program. Dagen is highly accomplished in the classroom, earning four WCGA Scholastic All-American honors (2019-22) while being named a Pac-12 Winter Academic Honor Roll recipient each of the last three years.
The senior is just as impressive on the apparatuses, collecting several honors throughout her career. As a junior, Dagen was named a 2021 WCGA Regular Season All-America Second Team selection in vault after she earned All-Pac-12 First Team nods in vault and balance beam that year. In all, Dagen has five All-Pac-12 honors as she was also a 2022 All-Pac-12 First Team award recipient in the all-around last season, earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention on balance beam as a sophomore in 2020 and was named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team on balance beam in her first season in 2019.
