Lake, Barry Lead Beavers On First Day In Phoenix

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Jackson Lake shot a 2-under par and Carson Barry finished at 1-under par to lead Oregon State in the first day of the Thunderbird Collegiate Friday, held at the par-71, 7,503-yard Papago Golf Course.

The two paced Oregon State to a seventh-place spot over the first 36 holes as the Beavers finished with a 3-under 565. OSU shot a 6-under 278 as a team in the first round, followed by a 3-over 287 to cap the day.

Lake shot at par in the first round, and ended his day with a 2-under 69 in the final 18 holes. He finished the first 36 with eight birdies. Lake is tied for 17th after day one.

Barry, meanwhile, posted a 3-under 68 in the first round, then a 2-over 73 over the final 18. He enters the second and final day of action with a 1-over 143. Like Lake, Barry also posted eight birdies in the first day.

Barry is tied for 24th entering day two.

Mateo Fuenmayor had the best round of the day by an OSU golfer, shooting a 4-under 67 in the first round. He ended his first 36 holes with a 1-over 143. Fuenmayor was among the tournament's leaders with nine birdies. Fuenmayor is tied for 40th.

Rylan Johnson was fourth among the OSU contingent, posting a 3-over 145. He shot a 1-over 72 in the first round, then a 2-over 73. He picked up four birdies in the first 36 holes. Johnson is tied for 48th.

Nolan Thoroughgood shot a 5-over 147 on Friday, coming in at 1-under in the last 18 and enters the final day tied for 59th. He also finished with four birdies.

Sean Kato and Brandon Eyre are both competing as individuals. Kato made six birdies in day one, with Eyre tallying four. Kato shot a 2-under 69 in the second round to finish the first day with a 3-over 145. Eyre, meanwhile, finished the first day at a 9-over 151.

Kato is tied for 59th, Eyre is tied for 76th.
