Gomez, Minni Pace Beavers On Day Two At NCAA Championships

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Chayse Gomez and Amanda Minni both fired a 1-under 71 to lead the Oregon State women's golf team in the second round of the NCAA National Championships on Saturday.
The Beavers improved their second round score by four strokes but fell two spots to 24th place with a 14-over 297-293--590 at the par-72, 6,383-yard Grayhawk Golf Club. OSU stayed away from the big numbers on day two with only one hole worse than a bogey compared to five in the opening round.
Oregon State is only six strokes out of 15th place and has a chance to make a move in the third round.
The top 15 of the 30 teams competing after Sunday's round will play an additional 18 holes on Monday to determine the eight teams that will advance to match play. The top nine individuals not on an advancing team after 54 holes will also play 18 more holes on Monday to determine the 72-hole individual stroke play champion.

The Beavers will be in the afternoon wave in Sunday's third round and start at 12:15 p.m. off the first tee with Mississippi State and Texas Tech. The morning wave will begin at 6:10 a.m. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Gomez was sensational for the second straight day, posting another 1-under 71 with four birdies and is tied for 24th place with a 2-under 71-71--142. She has eight birdies through the first two rounds, which is tied for the 20th most among more than 150 of the best golfers in the nation.
The Yorba Linda, Calif., native now has 18 sub-par scores in her Beaver career with 10 of them coming during her senior campaign.
Minni bounced back in a big way in the second round, posting a 71 that included three birdies and two bogeys. The birdies came on the par-4, 360-yard second, par-5, 474-yard seventh and par-4, 374-yard 14th holes. She climbed 40 spots up the leaderboard and into a tie for 77th place with a 4-over 77-71--148.
Danique Stokmans took a triple-bogey on the par-4, 334-yard sixth hole but played even golf the rest of the day with two birdies and two bogeys and is tied for 91st place with a 5-over 74-75--149.
Madde Sund started the day with two pars before rolling in a birdie on the par-4, 392-yard third hole. She is at 7-over 75-76--151 and tied for 112th place.
Kyra Ly stayed away from the big numbers in the second round but was unable to drop in a birdie and sits at a 15-over 78-81--159.
