
Beavers Drop Overtime Matchup to Cardinal

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's basketball team fell to Stanford 88-84 in overtime Thursday evening at Gill Coliseum.
Jordan Pope scored 21 points in the contest, as he surpassed the 20-point mark for the fourth-straight game. He finished the day 8-for-14 from the floor and tallied five assists. Tyler Bilodeau finished with 17 points, while KC Ibekwe had 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting.
Dexter Akanno ended his evening with 14 points. Michael Rataj filled the stat-sheet, going for nine points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals.
As a team, the Beavers shot 50.8 percent from the floor, including 44.4 percent from 3-point range.
The teams traded punches early on, and were level at 14, before Stanford scored six straight to open a slight advantage. Oregon State was within two at 27-25 at the under-8 media timeout.
The Beavers took the lead briefly with five minutes to play, and used a buzzer-beater from Pope to head to the break up 39-34.
Oregon State scored the first seven points of the second half to jump out to a 12-point lead. The Cardinal battled back to get within six, but the Beavers brough the advantage back to double-figures.
Stanford scored six unanswered to get back with in two with five minutes to play. The teams went back and forth, with Rataj leveling the score at 73 from the stripe with 16 seconds to play as the game headed to overtime.
The Cardinal led by as many as eight in the extra frame. The Beavers got back within three with 14 second on the clock but could not get any closer.
The game represented Oregon State's fourth overtime contest of the season.
The Beavers will have a full week off, as they do not return to action until next Thursday when they face Utah in Salt Lake City.
