Beavers Shine In Sweep At Rutgers January Quad

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Oregon State gymnastics team swept the Rutgers January Quad on Saturday afternoon at Jersey Mike's Arena. The Beavers posted a 195.850 to earn the team win over Rutgers (194.650), Southern Connecticut State (189.025) and Utica (176.725).
Jade Carey (bars), Ariana Young (beam) and Sophia Esposito (vault) all won event titles. It was the 95th career event title for Carey.
Oregon State started on the bars and got off to a great start with a 49.450. Carey led the way with a 9.975 to win the event, while Sage Thompson finished second with a 9.925 and Ellie Weaver finished third with a 9.900. Taylor DeVries and Jennifer McMillan both scored a 9.825 for the Beavers' scoring.
In the second rotation, Oregon State competed on the beam and Young led the event with a 9.875, followed closely by McMillan's 9.825 and Esposito's 9.775. Carey posted a 9.750 and Weaver finished with a 9.625.
Thompson led the Beavers on the floor in the third rotation with a career best-tying 9.850 to finish in a tie for second. Young and Weaver each posted a 9.825, while Sydney Gonzales finished with a 9.700.
In the final rotation of the quad, Oregon State competed on the vault and took the top four spots, led by Esposito with a 9.900. Thompson scored a 9.850 to finish second, and Natalie Briones and Kaitlin Garcia both finished in a tie for third with a 9.825.
