Stiles Registers Upset Win as Beavers Battle Oklahoma State

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The 25th-ranked Oregon State wrestling team returned home to Gill Coliseum on Sunday afternoon to face No. 4 Oklahoma State.
Oregon State fell, 36-3, to the Cowboys.
An upset win at 157 by no. 30 Ethan Stiles for the Beavers (1-2) over eighth-ranked Teague Travis in sudden victory (7-4) closed the dual's first half. The win marked the third consecutive for Stiles – a newcomer to Corvallis – to open the season and the second straight over a ranked foe. Stiles built up a 4-0 lead until it was matched by four unanswered by Travis to force the extra frame. With just 25 ticks left in the period, Stiles completed the takedown to seal the win.
Opening the action, 24th-ranked Maximo Renteria (125) came one takedown shy of knocking off no. 6 Troy Spratley. Renteria fought back from a deficit and used two unanswered escapes to send it to sudden victory before Spratley registered the decisive points for the Cowboys.
In the afternoon's penultimate match at 197, 19th-ranked Luke Surber got the better of no. 7 Trey Munoz in the sole matchup that featured All-Americans, by decision at 5-0.
Every Beaver faced a ranked opponent in the dual, including six inside InterMat's top eight of the latest rankings.
The dual was the second consecutive meeting with an opponent from the Big 12 following a win over North Dakota State last Friday night in Fargo.
Oregon State will make its first trip to the east coast next week to close November at the 2024 Navy Classic for its first tournament of the 2024-25 season. Competition from Annapolis, Md., is set for a 6 a.m. PT start and FloWrestling will provide the coverage along with live stats.
