Beavers Drop Thursday Matchup to Santa Clara
November 07, 2024 | Women's Volleyball
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Held to just a .210 hitting mark in the match, the Oregon State volleyball team fell to Santa Clara by a 3-0 (19-25, 21-25, 19-25) line.
Annika Hester (15 kills) and Emma Lilo (17 assists) led the Beaver offense while Yasemin Narloglu and Lauren Rumel paced the defense after tallying eight digs apiece. Lilo added a service to her name.
The Broncos used three runs – all at 4-0 – to take the first set over the Beavers (7-14, 5-5 WCC) by a 25-19 score. After nearly alternating points to 12, the hosts used four-point surge to make a lead at two before jumping to a 16-10 lead, an advantage they didn't cede to the Beavers.
Eager to level the match after dropping the first set, the Beavers battled 11 ties and five lead changes before letting their final lead – at 17-16 – slip. Santa Clara seized the set's last bit of momentum with an 8-3 run to take a second set at 25-21. Oregon State experienced their worst-hitting frame of the night, chalking up only a .143 clip.
Santa Clara closed the match with a strong offensive showing, tallying a .429 as they took the third with six-point lead at 25-19. Despite a 3-0 run by the Beavers to make it 12-all, Santa Clara responded with five of the next seven to build a cushion they would let go of, eventually winning by six.
In all, the Beavers committed six errors at the service line as well as five reception miscues. The lone service ace by Oregon State was the lowest of 2024 since last month's home match against the same Broncos, when the Beavers tallied just a pair.
The Beavers will stay out on the road and face San Francisco on Saturday. First serve against the Dons is set for noon and can be seen on ESPN+.
