March 10, 2024 | Wrestling
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The 21st-ranked Oregon State wrestling team finished action at Sunday's Pac-12 Championships with a third-place finish inside Gill Coliseum and advanced four to the NCAA Championships.
Trey Munoz clinched his third consecutive conference title at 184 pounds, defeating Arizona State's Tony Negron by decision at 8-3 to highlight the Beavers' performance. The Mission Viejo, California, native – seeded first – rolled to the title bout off an 11-3 major decision win over Little Rock's Triston Wills in the second round.
With the championship, he secured his fourth-consecutive bid to the NCAA Championships and is looking to build off his semifinalist finish a year ago. Joining him in Kansas City are Cleveland Belton (141), Justin Rademacher (197) and Boone McDermott (HWT) via the Pac-12's allocations by weight class.
Belton clinched his second trip to the NCAAs with a second-place finish following a 10-2 major decision over Stanford's Nico Provo to determine the league's final bid. The Corona, Calif., product found his way to the wrestle-off after falling by decision to Arizona State's Jesse Vasquez at 5-2.
Rademacher capped his Pac-12 Championship debut with a runner-up finish, falling to Little Rock's Stephen Little in the title bout. McDermott's first time at the Pac-12s finished with a runner-up finish as well, coming up short to Arizona State's Cohlton Schultz in the championship round.
Brandon Kaylor finished third in the 125-pound division, having dropped a close final match on the riding time point (2-1) to Arizona State's Richard Figueroa before falling by decision to Stanford's Nico Provo in the second-place match to end the night.
A quartet of Beavers – Gabe Whisenhunt (133), Nash Singleton (149), Kekana Fouret (165) and Mason Reiniche (174) – all had fourth-place finishes while CJ Hamblin (157) had a fifth-place tournament.
The NCAA qualifiers will start their championship run in Kansas City, Mo., from March 21-23 in the T-Mobile Center.
