BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Oregon State volleyball team fell to CSU Bakersfield on Thursday, in three sets: 24-26, 23-25, 20-25 - to open the Roadrunner Classic.
Lauren Rumel led the Beavers (1-3) in a pair of categories: kills (12) and aces (2) while Annika Hester followed with 10 and 1, respectively. Defensively, Yasemin Narlioglu used a team-high 11 digs to clinch a double-double while Emma Lilo's 32 assists led OSU in the category.
In the first set, the Beavers clawed back from three nine-point deficits to eventually holding a lead but could not clamp the advantage as the homestanding Roadrunners captured it by a 26-24 line. Rumel paced the Beaver attack with five kills in the set, setting the stage for her fourth consecutive double-digit match in the category.
Looking to even things in set two, Oregon State raced out to an early 5-1 lead but the hosts slowly chipped away at their deficit, ultimately tipping it in their favor after knotting things at 21. After level terms were reached by the hosts, they took advantage at 23-all with a Vivian Light miscue and an ace to seal the second stanza. Emma Lilo had her second consecutive set with double-digit assists, upping her total to 23.
Once again starting with the lead early, Oregon State saw the lead evaporate and turn to a deficit. Deadlocked at 12, the Roadrunners used a 13-8 run to complete the sweep of the Beavers, including finishing it with a pair of service aces.
Oregon State will look to rebound and snap their skid tomorrow when they face Nevada. First serve against the Wolf Pack is set for 1 p.m. and will not have a live stream.
