Beavers Drop Pac-12 Opener

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Oregon State wrestling team fell on the road in the Pac-12 opener to 17th-ranked Little Rock on Friday evening.
Highlighted by Ethan Stiles' upset of 10th-ranked Jordan Williams in the final bout of the night at 149, the Beavers (1-6, 0-1 Pac-12) took wins in four of the final five matchups but fell by a 29-14 margin.

Stiles never trailed to the defending Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week and even jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the buzzer sounded after the second. He logged over two minutes' worth of riding time to seal his second win over a top-10 opponent of the season (#8 Teague Travis (Oklahoma State – 157)).
Seventeenth-ranked Brett Mower (HWT), no. 10 Maximo Renteria (125) and Nash Singleton (141) joined Stiles in collecting wins with Mower's coming at technical fall. Mower broke his bout open with a strong second while Renteria used the riding time advantage for separation to ensure the result.
Despite his opponent holding a significant riding time advantage, Singleton used a pair of late scores to take a win by decision. Getting on the board with three ticks left in the second, he escaped out for the 1-0 lead before turning the result with a last-second takedown to win the bout by a 4-1 line.
Oregon State will return home for a two-dual weekend starting on Friday, January 31st against Stanford before resuming Pac-12 competition against CSU Bakersfield two days later on February 2nd. The first bout against the Cardinal is set for 7 p.m. and can be seen exclusively on FloWrestling. Sunday action is slated for a 2 p.m. start and can also only be seen on FloWrestling.
