Rumel's 18 Kills Leads Beavs Past LMU
October 25, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
LOS ANGELES – Behind 18 Lauren Rumel kills and timely offense late, the Oregon State volleyball team rebounded for a sweep of LMU on Saturday afternoon.
Oregon State (13-6, 7-2 WCC) used lopsided offense in the first two sets to take control before a late run secured the 25-15, 25-19, 25-21 road win over the Lions. The win marked the eighth sweep of the season for the Beavers.
Rumel got her 18 kills on 33 swings for a .485 rate to pace the attack while Jackie Matias dished a team-high 21 assists to keep the pressure on the hosts. All 13 Beavers to play in the match each recorded a dig, with Yasemin Narlioglu's nine the benchmark while Rumel needed just four additional ones for a second-straight double-double on the weekend.
Even though LMU opened the first with the 1-0 lead, the Beavers quickly tied it up before running away with the set. Oregon State kept their hosts to a .100 clip while racking up a .424 line for themselves, led by seven Rumel kills in the frame. A 5-0 run at 7-5 broke it open for the Beavers that had a key block between Annika Hester and Nathalie Scholz and a few Lion errors. With four digs in the set, Yasemin Narlioglu led the suffocating defense.
Behind a combined 15 digs in the set, Oregon State kept LMU in check for the second set win, claiming a six-point advantage at 25-19. Facing an early – but small – hole at 7-6, the Beavers turned it around with a 9-0 run to build enough separation for the rest of the set. Even though the Lions crept back to trail by just two at 19-17, Oregon State used key attacking to gain the 2-0 set lead. Rumel and Alana Marrs (six and four kills, respectively) paced the necessary offense to keep OSU ahead.
Even with the 2-0 set lead, Oregon State needed to keep battling late to secure the match. Trailing by as many as five at 15-10, the Beavers chipped away and flipped the momentum with an 8-0 run before finishing off the Lions at 25-21 after one last 3-0 run. Five Emma Lilo assists were crucial in the late charge while Rumel used five additional kills to lead the attack. Defensively, it was a team effort to keep the Lions in check, with four Beavs – Kamana'o Goldstein, Narlioglu, Rumel and Tia Shum – all recording three digs.
The Beavers will return to the Beaver State for the next two, opening the weekend in the Rose City for a match with Portland. Action from the Bluff is set for 6 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
