October 30, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
PORTLAND, Ore.– Dominant offense in the third set secured Oregon State's win - and ninth sweep of the season – on Thursday night over Portland.
Oregon State (14-6, 8-2 WCC) used a .455 clip to push away the Pilots in the final set to solidify a 25-15, 25-21, 25-16 sweep for the eighth conference win of the season. On the night, the Beavers hit at a .333 rate while holding their hosts to just .161.
Lauren Rumel led the high-hitting attack with 15 kills while Maëli Cormier added 10 to her ledger on the night while Jackie Matias put up 31 assists to keep the momentum up. A trio of Beavers – Alana Marrs, Matias and Nathalie Scholz – each put up four blocks while Yasemin Narlioglu dug out a team-best 11 Portland attacks. As a team, the Beavers served 11 aces, with four in the opening frame and were paced by a trio from Matias.
Oregon State opened the night in strong fashion: a 10-point set win, four aces and a defense that held Portland to just a .026 clip. After splitting the set's first four points, the Beavers seized the early momentum and didn't look back. The offense charged to five runs of 3-0 or better and didn't let the Pilots get within more than six before one final 3-0 run. Rumel opened her ledger with five kills to lead the attack while Narligolu tallied six digs.
Following the dominant first set, the Beavers had to work for it in the second. Oregon State battled to tie Portland early and often – seven times – before pulling away for the four-point set win. A 3-0 Beaver run from 12-all pushed the set's momentum for the last time. Cormier and Rumel split a frame-high 10 kills to lead an offense that turned in a .355 rate for the set while Narlioglu added four more digs to her total.
Eager to close out the in-state battle early, Oregon State used a .455 hitting rate in the third to seal the sweep. The Beavers jumped out to a 5-0 lead from the onset of the frame, keeping their distance and not letting the Pilots get within fewer than five. Eight Matias helpers and five Rumel kills helped power Oregon State to the lopsided score while a balanced Beaver defense kept Portland to a .200 hitting rate.
With the win, it improved Oregon State's record to 46-8 all-time against the Pilots and have secured the series to 3-0 as conference mates.
The Beavers will open November with a Pac-12 reunion in a matchup against Washington State. Sunday's match against the Cougars is slated for a 1 p.m. first serve and can be seen on ESPN+.
