November 02, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
CORVALLIS, Ore.– The Oregon State volleyball team dropped its November opener on Sunday, falling in four sets (25-17, 23-25, 25-27, 14-25) to Washington State.
Oregon State (14-7, 8-3 WCC) saw its four-match home winning streak come to an end following setbacks in the final three sets of the afternoon.
Lauren Rumel used a double-double to lead Oregon State on the day, combining for 17 kills and 13 digs. Maëli Cormier also tallied 11 kills to keep the offense going and Jackie Matias put up a team-leading 30 assists. Yasemin Narlioglu paced the Beavers with 18 digs.
The Beavers took advantage of the first set, darting out from an early 1-0 hole to take the opener. Three Beavs – Cormier, Rumel and Nathalie Scholz – all contributed four kills in the set to power an offense to the eight-point win. 19 combined digs – with six from Narlioglu – helped keep the Cougars to a measly .050 clip in the set.
Timely runs late from the Cougars gave them their two-point set wins in two and three. Washington State fought back in the second down two at 19-17 before turning the tides of the frame on the way to a 25-23 win. A set later, they held off Oregon State from tying late as they held on for the 27-25 set win in the third.
The Cougar offense exploded in the final set – at a .538 rate – to spoil the Sunday in Gill and won the frame by 11. Oregon State committed five reception errors while Washington State dug out 12 Beaver attacks.
The Beavers will return to the road against Saint Mary's (Calif.) for their next match on Thursday. First serve against the Gaels is set for 6:30 p.m. in Moraga.
