GOT THE GAELS
Oregon State and Saint Mary's last met on Sept. 25 of this season, and during that game, the Beavers kept the visiting Gaels in check, holding their guests to just a .090 hitting rate in a four-set (25-12, 25-17, 22-25, 25-17) win in Gill Coliseum. Lauren Rumel led the way offensively with 14 kills while true freshmen Alana Marrs and Maëli Cormier each tallied eight kills; both Emma Lilo (24) and Jackie Matias (19) combined for 43 of the team's 50 total assists.
TAMING THE LIONS
Against LMU on Oct. 25, Oregon State used lopsided offense in the first two sets to take control before a late run secured the 25-15, 25-19, 25-21 road win over the Lions. The Beavs outpaced LMU in hitting (.281 vs .137) and held an edge in blocks (7-5) and aces (8-4). Rumel's 18 kills led the team, hitting .485, while Matias posted a team-high 21 assists in the game; Nathalie Scholz chipped in five kills and four blocks.
DAMMING THE COMPETITION
Prior to Sunday's loss against Washington State, the Beavers kept Portland and LMU to a percentage under .140 in their previous two meetings. OSU limited Saint Mary's to .090, keeping them to .000 in the first set, also holding LMU to .137.
YOUTH
A big chunk of the Beavers' scoring this year has come from underclassmen. Though led by Rumel (336.5), Marrs (221.5) and Cormier (198.0), both freshmen, are in second and third place on the roster. Graduate student Annika Hester (173.0) is in fourth with sophomore Nathalie Scholz in fifth and freshmen Keila Gabriel (72.5) and Bridget Gould (44.5) following.
On a roster with 17 student-athletes, the Beavers have just five upperclassmen, which includes a trio of graduate students (Hester, Tia Shum, Vivian Light), one senior (Rumel) and one junior (Matias).
CONFERENCE LEADERS
During conference play, Oregon State has at least one student-athlete in the top 10 among the WCC for six of the major statistical categories during. Rumel's .350 hitting percentage ranks ninth and she's also one of the top scorers, averaging 4.48 points per set, which is second highest, while her 4.13 kills per set is also second. Both Marrs (1.19 – fourth) and Scholz (1.10 – sixth) are in the top 10 for blocks while Matias is ninth with 5.83 assists per set and Shum is in tenth for digs per set (2.90).
BLOCK PARTY
Scholz (80 total, 1.18/set) and Marrs (77 total, 1.07/set) haven't just been tremendous at the net during conference play. When looking at the entire season, Scholz's per-set average ranks second in the conference while Marrs is ninth, which makes OSU one of just three schools to have two or more athletes in the top-10 for blocks per set across the entire year; Pepperdine and San Diego are the other two.
ISLAND CONNECTION
Only three WCC programs can claim a league-high three student-athletes from Hawai'i and Oregon State is one of them. The Beavers' trio highlights the program's ties to talent across the Pacific.
WORLDWIDE BEAVS
Oregon State has four international student-athletes, which is second in the league behind San Francisco (seven); in the previous two years in the Behonick era, the Beavs had three each year. International Beavs include Cormier (Canada), Yasemin Narlioglu (Turkey), Scholz (Germany) and Shum (Canada).
CONFERENCE HONORS
Annika Hester and Rumel were honored by the league as members of the all-conference preseason team., with the duo ending 2024 on the league's First Team while Rumel earned a spot on the All-Academic Team.
BACK THE PAC
Oregon State will close its two-year stint as an affiliate member of the WCC at the conclusion of the 2025 season. Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, San Diego State, Texas State and Utah State will join OSU and Washington State in a rebuilt Pac-12 starting next season.
