Beavers Explode For Six Goals in Dominant Win

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's soccer team dismantled Santa Clara 6-0 Sunday afternoon at Paul Lorenz Field.
With the offensive explosion, the Beavers have now scored five goals or more in three-straight games, amassing a total of 16 goals over the course of three matches.
The victory brings the Beavers to 9-3-2 on the season, as they remain unbeaten in West Coast Conference play, retaking first place in the league with 17 points (5-0-2).
Arnau Farnos netted the first two goals of the contest, bringing his season total to 13 goals, good for the seventh-best single-year mark in program history. He also moves up to fourth in career points (68) and fifth in career goals (26).
Iker Carbonell Garcia scored the first two goals of his Oregon State career, making a marked impact off the bench. Tate Richards also scored the first goal of his Beaver career, while Diego Rodriguez scored for the second-straight game.
Lucas Fernandez Kim had two assists on the afternoon, and Fran Cortijo registered one, as the senior moved into a tie for fifth on OSU's career assists list with 17.
John Nicolson had a big match in the Oregon State net, keeping a clean sheet and providing his second assist of the season.
Oregon State very nearly jumped in front less than five minutes in, as Andrew De Gannes stung the crossbar with a rocket from the left side of the box. Farnos just missed the target 10 minutes later, firing his shot just outside the right post.
Farnos found the net in the 17th minute, as a beautiful pass from Cortijo put him in on goal. The Spaniard slotted his shot past the keeper to put the Beavers in front. Farnos had another couple scoring chances in the middle portion of the opening period.
Farnos netted another in the 35th, this time from the penalty spot after Cortijo was brought down inside the 18-yard box.
The Beavers headed to the locker room up 2-0, after a dominant first half that saw them out-shoot the Broncos 14-4.
Tim Hoffman had a chance to add a third for the Beavers early in the second period with back-to-back shots that did not find the target. Carbonell Garcia netted the Beavers third in the 63rd, taking the ball from midfield and dribbling through a slew of Bronco defenders before curling his shot past the keeper.
Richards found the net in the 68th, lifting the ball into the roof of the net from 10 yards out in the 68th. Carbonell Garcia followed that up with a strike from the top of the box just two minutes later to bring the lead to five.
Rodriguez finished the scoring in the 81st, capitalizing on an interchange down the right wing before hammering one home.
Oregon State will host Senior Day on Wednesday when UTRGV visits Lorenz Field.
