
Maximo Renteria Named Pac-12 Wrestler Of The Week

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State redshirt senior Maximo Renteria has been named the Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week, it was announced Tuesday by the conference.
Renteria placed second at 125 pounds at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite on Saturday. He competed in five bouts over two days, going 4-1 which included three wins over ranked foes.
He opened with a 5-4 decision over Northwestern's Dedrick Navarro, then picked up three straight wins over the ranked foes. First, he defeated No. 27 Richard Castro-Sandoval (CSUB), 5-2, which was followed by a 4-2 decision over No. 32 Marcello Milani of Cornell. Renteria then vaulted himself into the finals with a 7-6 decision over No. 11 Nico Provo from Stanford. He came up just short of the title with an 8-6 loss to No. 13 Jett Strickenberger of West Virginia.
Renteria, a Pac-12 Champion last season, is 12-1 on the year. He's earned extra points in seven of his 12 wins. He is the first Beaver to be recognized by the Pac-12 this year.
He and the Beavers next compete at Northern Illinois on Dec. 19. The dual begins at 5 p.m. PT.
