February 26, 2025 | Women's Gymnastics
STANFORD, Calif. – The road comes calling for a third-consecutive week as Oregon State Gymnastics will head to the Bay Area for a quad meet on Friday. Hosted by No. 14 Stanford, OSU will also compete against No. 5 California and UC Davis.
No. 12 Oregon State Beavers vs No. 5 California, No. 14 Stanford and UC Davis
Date: Feb. 28, 2025
Time: 7 p.m.
Location: Maples Pavilion – Stanford, Calif.
Broadcast: ACCNX
Live Results: Virtius
THE MATCHUP:
California sits at No. 5 in the latest Road to Nationals rankings and is coming off a commanding performance at home against Pitt, finishing with a 197.775 team score that was the highest in ACC history. Mya Lauzon leads the way with a 39.509 average in the all-around, which ranks sixth among all gymnasts nationally; the Golden Bears and Beavers have competed against each other, which came during the season opener on Jan. 4 in Oceanside.
No. 14 Stanford was last in action at Clemson on Sunday, winning the dual meet with a 196.925. With a 196.830 NQS and average of 196.736, the Cardinal have two consistent all-arounders in Anna Roberts, averaging a 39.288, and Brenna Neault, who enters Friday's quad meet with a 39.218 average.
UC Davis, who competed in Corvallis on Feb. 7, won its most recent competition, posting a 195.925 in a tri meet against San Jose State and Air Force. Vault has been the Aggies' strength thus far, ranking higher than any apparatus with Kenna Abraham (9.807 average) and Megan Ray (9.791 average) leading the way.
ROAD WARRIORS:
The Stanford Quad marks meet number three out of four-consecutive road competitions, a stretch that has included matchups against several ranked opponents and will conclude with a March 9 matchup at San Jose State. The Beavers have now been on the road four times this season, opening the year with a second-place finish at the American Gold Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Classic against then-ranked No. 4 California and No. 10 UCLA before scoring a 196.975 at Auburn, 196.950 at the Denver Quad and 196.025 at the Metroplex Challenge.
Oregon State next competes inside Gill Coliseum against Air Force on March 15.
LAST MEET:
Fort Worth, Texas, was the site of Oregon State's last competition, where the Beavers finished third in a competition that also included then-ranked No. 14 Arkansas, No. 19 Arizona and SEMO. After a slow start on beam, OSU finished out with a pair of 49.225s on vault and bars to score a 196.025, coming in behind the Razorbacks (196.400) and Wildcats (196.225) but ahead of the Redhawks (192.350).
RESPONDED:
Oregon State struggled on beam in the first rotation of the Metroplex Challenge, combining for a 48.550 rotation score. The Beavers quickly responded, however, and improved up to a 49.025 on floor in rotation two before finishing with a pair of 49.225s on vault and bars. In a meet that was decided by just over one-third of a point, if Oregon State would have hit its season average on beam (49.234), the Beavs would have hit approximately 196.700, which would have been the top mark in the meet.
ANOTHER CAREER HIGH:
Some 10 days after setting her career high on vault, Kaitlin Garcia accomplished the feat again, improving upon her 9.900 on Feb. 11 to earn a 9.925 at the Metroplex Challenge. The San Diego, Calif., native has been a key figure in the Oregon State vault and floor lineups this year, competing in all eight meets with five 9.900+ scores in 16 total routines; she also enters Friday's competition at Stanford with a floor NQS of 9.870 that ranks top-50 nationally.
BRIONES ON THE BARS:
Natalie Briones has been a consistent contributor for multiple Beaver lineups in 2025. On Friday, Briones tied a season high on bars with a 9.850, also vaulting her way to a 9.825. She has posted a 9.800-plus score in five of her last six total routines and has finished with a 9.800 or higher score nine out of a possible 16 times this season while maintaining a perfect hit rate.
STEADY SAGE:
Sage Thompson reached 100 completed collegiate routines while in Fort Worth, competing on three events and continuing her strong senior season that includes a perfect hit rate (24-24) while increasing her career rate to 94%. At the Metroplex Challenge, the Lehi, Utah, native competed on three events for the eighth time across eight meets in 2025; Thompson earned a 9.825 for her vault, 9.875 on bars and 9.825 for her floor routine.
BROKEN (ANOTHER) RECORD:
Jade Carey won both the all-around and beam for the eighth time in eight meets this season, finishing with four event titles to bring her up to 28 out of a possible 40 this season. It might seem that there isn't another record to be broken, yet the decorated Olympian did it once again at Friday's meet, claiming sole possession of most 39-plus all-around scores in OSU history.
With a 39.675 on Friday, Carey reached 40 as a Beaver, one more than Jami Lanz (2006-09), who previously held the record with 39.
SOPHOMORE SEASON STEP UP:
After an up-and-down freshman season that showed promise, Olivia Buckner has taken a clear step forward as a sophomore. Last year, she competed in every meet and combined for 22 total routines thanks to 11 appearances on vault and 11 on beam. As a sophomore, the Riverton, Utah, native has competed on the beam in every meet, scoring a 9.800 or higher in six of eight meets for OSU's seventh-ranked beam team, while stepping into the vault lineup the last two weeks to earn a 9.750 and 9.775.
HALF A CENTURY:
Jennifer McMillan was given a 9.800 on bars in the fourth rotation of Friday's Metroplex Challenge, which marked the 50th hit in her Oregon State career. With appearances in 26 meets across her first two seasons in Corvallis, McMillan in 2025 has appeared in every single competition on both bars and beam, earning eight scores of 9.850 or higher, while also scoring a 9.775 for her lone vault of the season on Jan. 4.
STABLE:
Several Oregon State student-athletes have solidified not just their place in the top six, but their exact spots in each lineup. Across each of the team's eight competitions, 10 different OSU gymnasts have competed in the same exact spot in every single meet: Jade Carey has anchored all four lineups along with Briones (uneven bars – two), McMillan (bars – four and beam – four), Thompson (bars – five), Esposito (beam – one), Buckner (beam – two), Lauren Letzsch (beam – three), Sydney Gonzales (beam – five), Savannah Miller (floor – one) and Garcia (floor – five); Thompson (floor – three), Esposito (floor – four) and Briones (vault – two) have competed in the same spot in seven out of eight competitions this season.
UP NEXT:
The team's month on the road concludes with a March 9 competition at San Jose State.
