Third Eights Win Two Races at Redwood Shores Invitational
March 02, 2025 | Men's Rowing
SAN CARLOS, Calif. – Oregon State men's rowing was victorious twice at the Redwood Shores Invitational this weekend, competing head-to-head against opponents such as California, Drexel, San Diego, Santa Clara and hosts Stanford.
"This is a very early regatta and many teams are simply training at this point. The top end speed needs to be faster, and that happens in training," Head Coach Gabe Winkler said. "The wind made for a challenging weekend. It was a direct head wind which makes for longer races, which is tough, so it's all about perspective.
"Stanford and Cal are definitely two IRA Grand Final teams and Drexel is a perennial contender, and we come back to this course in five weeks, so the level will increase," Winkler added. "The boat of the weekend was the 3V winning two out of their three races."
Coxed by Kaelyn Peterson, the third eights started with an eight second margin of victory over Santa Clara, finishing the course in 6:29.3. After finishing second to California in its second race, the boat finished its regatta with an 18 second advantage in a win against San Diego on Sunday.
The varsity eights and second varsity eights were close to claiming victories on Sunday but finished just behind Drexel in both races.
Beaver Men's Rowing returns to action at the second iteration of the Redwood Shores Invitational, scheduled for April 5-6.
