Beavers Battle No. 2 Washington at Vancouver Lake
April 12, 2025 | Men's Rowing
VANCOUVER, Wash. – Oregon State men's rowing was in action on Saturday, hosting the University of Washington at Vancouver Lake.
"There were different races within each race and the 4V knocked off their counterpart, which is something that hasn't happened in a very long time, and the 4+ boats were the same way," Head Coach Gabe Winkler said. "The boat coxed by Tamsyn Adams and stroked by Luke Wages was nearly in front after a fierce sprint but came up half a length short. Many thanks to Washington for making the trip down!"
The first race of the regatta featured four different varsity eight boats from each school. OSU's 1V8+, who finished the course in 5:55.01, posted the Beavs' fastest time of the day to finish in fourth place out of eight total boats; the second, third, and fourth eight all finished in fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
Some 90 minutes later, the varsity four race was close, with the gap between first and third place being approximately three seconds. Coxed by Tamsyn Adams, the Beaver varsity four placed third at 6:34.07, while the Huskies' first and second four used times of 6:30.97 and 6:32.74 to take the top two spots.
Though 15 boats competed on Saturday, they were all on the water in just two different races, as there were eight different varsity eight boats competing at the same time and seven in the fours race, something that Coach Winkler said the team may try to do in future regattas.
"We had an amazing opportunity to race eight across and it was tremendous fun," he said. "The conditions held off for extremely competitive racing, as each boat pushed off the next down the course. We may have started a new tradition."
Beaver men's rowing returns to action on April 26, competing against Gonzaga, UC San Diego and Santa Clara in a regatta hosted by Gonzaga.
